Oakland Genesis is a 501c3 non-profit organization that provides socially and economically disadvantaged youth, ages 13-18, with free transportation, academic support, and professional soccer coaching.

ACADEMIC SUPPORT

Oakland Genesis provides free academic support and college advising to its players, including but not limited to: a safe learning environment outside of school, tutoring, SAT and ACT exam preparation, college application support, scholarship and grant application support, counseling, and navigating the college athletic recruitment process.

While we are grounded in soccer, What truly differentiates us is our academic programming. The barriers our students face are significant. In Oakland, less than one in five eighth-graders meet the state standard for English Language Arts, and even less meet the state standard for Math.

On top of players’ athletic responsibilities, Oakland Genesis players attend mandatory study halls two times per week. Currently, these classes are focused on skill-building and mastery in English and Math, and are designed and taught by Oakland Unified School Teachers, Genesis coaches, and enrichment providers from partner organizations.

Participation in Oakland Genesis requires a standard of academic effort!

COMPETITIVE SOCCER

OGSC provides free access to licensed, professional coaches. Our holistic coaching philosophy prioritizes personal development over athletic development, understanding that attributes learned on the field benefits individuals beyond it. It is an environment that fosters a passion for one’s work, inspires teamwork, and provides the technical, tactical, and psychological instruction required for players to develop.

TRANSPORTATION

OGSC provides free, safe, vetted transportation to and from team practices and games. These optional rides allow players and their families a chance to enjoy the best parts of playing competitive soccer on a team, without sacrificing significant time and resources to do so.

OGSC partners with local transportation-focused non-profits, vehicle rental services, and use OGSC owned vehicles to provide free transportation that players, parents, and families can trust.
