Prior to Healthier Generation, Krista held support and leadership roles at USA Football, Soccer United Marketing, U.S. Soccer Foundation, Coaching Corps, and the East Bay Community Foundation. When she’s not reading about the latest trending topics, Krista serves as a core organizer and holistic healing practitioner (Yoga and Reiki) for the Freedom Community Clinic. Through Freedom Community Clinic, she launched the Healing for Nonprofits program that works with mission-driven organizations in the Bay Area to provide employees with opportunities to decompress and build their self-care toolkit. A former college athlete, Krista has personally felt the power of sport and its ability to build community, provide a safe space to play, boost confidence, and achieve academic success. She has also seen and experienced how systems can prohibit youth and their families from experiencing the benefits of playing sports. He is one of the Founders of JAMS. Prior to his work as a mediator, Michael was a trial attorney for 12 years at Sedgwick, Detert, Moran & Arnold, based in the firm's San Francisco office. Michael holds a BA in Political Science from the University of Miami, and a JD from Hastings College of the Law (Univ. of California, SF Law). Michael's primary sports back in the day were baseball and basketball but he was introduced into the world of soccer when his two kids, Madison and Max, started playing soccer for the Rockridge Soccer Club and later for the Bay Oaks Soccer Club. Both Madison and Max played for Bay Oaks from U-10 through their high school years, with Max joining the DeAnza Academy as a U-18. Max went on to play for Santa Clara University, and then professionally for the Portland Timbers 2, and for the last 2 years, the Oakland Roots. Curiously, while never having played soccer whatsoever, Michael ended up coaching various boys and girls soccer teams for Bay Oaks for 16 years, primarily as an assistant or co-coach. He coached the younger brother of OGSC co-founder Cody Pillon, as well as one of OGSC's coaches, Dylan Autran. Both Cody's brother and Dylan knew more about soccer as U-10s than their coach. He also was a licensed soccer referee for 16 years. Michael served on the Bay Oaks Board of Directors, and also served a term as the President of Bay Oaks. As an Oakland resident for 37 years, and having had a long-term relationship with the East Bay soccer community, Michael is aware of the diverse nature of the community and some of the challenges that families face in navigating participation in youth soccer. After hearing what Cody and Matt were doing with OGSC, Michael was eager to get involved in an organization that is filling a major void in youth soccer. He is a 15 year veteran of professional soccer and has played in leagues across North America, including MLS, NASL, USL and NISA. He has a long history of living and playing in the Bay Area with the San Jose Earthquakes, San Francisco Deltas and in his current home with the Oakland Roots. He also sits on the Board Of Directors for the United Soccer League Players Association (USLPA) where he serves as the Director Of Career Development, a role where he is trusted to develop pathways and opportunities for players throughout the league both during and after their careers. Nana was born in Toronto, Canada, one of the most multicultural cities in the world. He was raised in an area that is predominantly African American and oftentimes overlooked when it comes to allocating resources for supporting youth. Nana is excited about helping to bring increased opportunity to the Oakland communities that remind him of the neighborhood that shaped the man he is today. Nana is passionate about OGSC because he sees himself in the youth the program aims to empower. He represented his country, Peru, in the first Youth World Cup in Argentina in 1981. He played under the Peruvian National Development Youth program, CEDENA, until he came to the United States in 1987 when he decided to focus his career on coaching and the development of talented youth. He earned his USSF “A” license in 1998, the NSCAA “Premier License” in 2003, and the USYSA Youth National License shortly after. Internationally, he has earned the CBF “B” license from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and the “Director Tecnico” license from the Peruvian Football Federation. He also holds a Masters of Science in Kinesiology and Sport Science from California State University East Bay. Ramiro Rodriguez now begins his eighteenth season with Cal North and USSF Coaching Education as a State Olympic Development coach and as a State Coaching Instructor respectively. Rodriguez has been involved with the State ODP Olympic Development Program since 2001 helping both the boys’ and girls’ side. As the boys’ head coach of the 1990, 1994, 2003 and 2005 age groups, he has been crowned Regional Champions in 2009, 2010, 2016 and 2019 respectively. He has coached at the club soccer level for over 20 years with multiple clubs in the Bay Area and he has been a mentor to youth throughout his career, always encouraging involvement in the community, academic engagement and college education. As an Oakland Unified School District educator and professional coach I have noticed the lack of participation from our underprivileged youth within the main US soccer stream. Private soccer clubs are too expensive for our Oakland families and the “pay to play” system doesn’t help young athletes have the chance to train and develop with highly qualified coaches. When I met Cody and Matt and they explained the OGSC mission, it totally got my attention. She grew up playing with local recreational teams then made her transition to the ECNL league and finally reached the collegiate level. Hailai’s drive for success and relentless pursuit of growth allowed her to earn a scholarship from one of the best soccer programs in the country while also pursuing a Marketing and Entrepreneurship degree from Santa Clara University. Alongside captaining the Santa Clara Women’s soccer team, Hailai was also a member of the Afghanistan National Team, helping build the foundation for future generations of Afghan girls. Hailai then made her life-long dream of playing professional soccer internationally into a reality, becoming the first Afghan Woman to play in both Italy’s Seria A and Germany’s Bundesliga. After retiring last year, Hailai has pivoted her career and is now working at Nike HQ. Through her journey, Hailai has experienced the various systems that players have to go through to play the sport they love, from the lowest levels to the highest. This experience is intersectional as a person growing up in a minority community, as a young girl, and as a Bay Area native. She is a product of incredible culture that has molded her passion to create impact within the sports world. Soccer has shaped her into who she is today. It has taught her what leadership is and the impact it can have on people beyond the sport world. Sport is one of the most incredible mediums to impact and enact change. Once an athlete, always an athlete. Despite not playing anymore, Hailai seeks to be a part of organizations that strive to get the youth involved with the sport of soccer. In his role at TPG, Tim works with innovative management teams at early-stage internet and digital media businesses to help unlock their next stage of growth. Prior to TPG, he worked in New York with PJT Partners. Tim has an M. Phil. in Latin American Studies from the University of Cambridge and a B.S. in Commerce and Spanish from UVA. His current non-profit board service includes the McIntire Young Alumni Committee, America SCORES Bay Area Leadership Council, and the Highwind Impact Fund. When he’s not out for a run or trying to get through the NYT crossword, Tim can be found in search of the Bay area’s best diner. Tim’s passion for OGSC stems from a lifelong love for soccer and excitement about the crossover between sport and youth development. Growing up playing and coaching soccer, Tim made his first foray into the “business world” with a coaching and tutoring company – Sportsitters – he started in high school. At the University of Virginia, Tim led student volunteers coaching in local athletics programs, reaching over 1,500 youth in the Charlottesville community. Originally from the East Coast, Tim worked with organizations such as South Bronx United and America SCORES NYC to help increase access to soccer and academic coaching in New York City. He helps oversee the companies philanthropical efforts as well as the community relations/public affairs duties as well. He was honored by The City of Los Angeles and the Los Angeles NAACP for his work in the community, and has partnered up with many of the community organizations in Los Angeles, Watts, Compton, Orange County and Long Beach to help serve LMI communities and ensure that underserved communities have access to the resources that they need. In his previous role with Wells Fargo he was a Senior Growth and Strategy Consultant, and his job was to work with the District Managers and the Regional Bank Presidents in a consultant capacity to help them maximize the efficiency of the territories that they were responsible for. Spending the last 20 in soccer at every level, from youth to professional, Dan brings extensive knowledge of the youth sports landscape as well as hands on operational experience running youth sports organizations and businesses. As a youth coach and leader for his entire career, Dan has seen first hand the power of sport and its ability to change the world. As a soccer leader in Northern California, Dan has sought out opportunities to change the game and give back to a community that has provided him with so much. She is an Account Director for software company Juniper Square, and founder of Overtime Coaching (pro-athlete transition support.) Kady is a well-known expert in Silicon Valley for go-to-market strategy and launching sales teams for early stage tech companies. She previously was the first sales hire and built the sales team for Motive (now a $3Bn company) and helped to lead sales efforts for ZenDrive. Prior to her career in tech, Kady was a professional tennis player- winning 4 doubles titles and being ranked top 450 in the world. She graduated from Arizona State University with a double major in Marketing and Management, where she brought the school their first individual tennis national championship title. Kady states she wouldn't be where she is today or the person she is without athletics. The discipline, life lessons, and people she has met has put her in position to be the first college graduate in her family history on both sides, and a driven, succesful businesswoman. This is why the OGSC mission resonates with her. In 2011, Dave founded Project Vega, a 501(c)(3) organization that established the first free-to-play competitive soccer club in San Francisco. Project Vega went on to serve over 750 youth with a combined soccer, vocabulary enrichment, conflict resolution, and healthy habits curriculum. Dave is passionate about the Oakland Genesis mission and is excited to tackle some of the same barriers to access that he began removing with Project Vega. He is especially excited about the academic program having seen the literacy benefits of combining soccer and academics from his time with Project Vega. He graduated with a BA (Hons) in Business Administration from the University of the West of England in the UK in 1986. In addition to a variety of positions in the Bay Area, he was the volunteer Controller at the Bay Oaks Soccer Club for two years. Both of his children, Nik and Antonia, played competitive soccer locally with Nik going on to play at Santa Barbara City College, Gonzaga and the Oakland Roots. Being born in Mexico, his parents immigrated to the United States to search for new opportunities. Opportunities included; school and soccer. He started playing competitively for Bay Oaks (now East Bay United) at the age of 9, while later finishing his youth career at De Anza Force's Development Academy. He went on to play college soccer at Santa Clara University before playing a few seasons in Europe in France, Finland and Norway. He finished his playing career back at home playing for the local professional team, the Oakland Roots. Since hanging up the boots, Dylan has been coaching at De Anza Force Soccer Club in the South Bay. He is intimately familiar with the challenges youth from Oakland face as they navigate through the system. He graduated from UC Santa Cruz with a degree in Latin American and Latino Studies with a minor in Education. He is currently working on his Master’s in Education. Soccer has always been a part of Ricardo’s life, from growing up watching and playing with his father and uncles to joining his first team at 5 years old. He understands the importance of engaging in physical activity, working within a team, setting goal and striving to reach them. She is an Oakland Unified School District alumni. She graduated from Coliseum College Prep Academy in 2020. She is rooted and educated in Oakland. She currently attends Mills College at Northeastern University, and is hoping to complete her bachelors in psychology, then moving on to get her masters. She knows what it's like to grow up in Oakland and try to beat the odds as a first generation Mexican American. She has been working with kids since high school and she truly enjoys being an extra support system for them whenever they need it. Naomi grew up around soccer from herself playing to seeing her family play. She started playing soccer at a young age and continued to play in middle school and high school. She heard about Oakland Genesis through students of hers while working at CCPA. She has always liked how Oakland Genesis also highlighted the academic side of soccer on being an athlete and scholar. He brings eight year’s experience playing professional soccer in the United States where he learned how the soccer industry prioritizes players from high-income families. He first became excited about soccer’s potential to act as a connective social tissue when he worked for a nonprofit in Raleigh, North Carolina. He used the game as a way of connecting recently settled refugees and immigrants with their new communities – it was a great success. He is now thrilled about soccer’s potential to disrupt the pay-to-play model in his hometown. She began playing when she was 5 years old. So it was no surprise that her son picked up the sport at a young age. It was through her son, who plays for the Oakland Genesis 2008 team, that Carina found her way to Oakland Genesis. Inspired by the coach's commitment to academic excellence Carina is delighted to assist the team with academic programming. Carina has been teaching 6th and 7th grade English at Coliseum College Prep Academy since 2010. She graduated from UC Davis with a degree in English and History in 2007 and earned her Masters in Teaching from USC in 2010. Lex graduated from Grant Union High School in North Sacramento in 2012. Lex played soccer all four years and was captain of the soccer team for 3 of those years. Lex considers herself a natural leader. Filling the captain role in high school has expanded her experience as a leader on and off the field. Lex was able to find motivation through this role, creating safe, connected, and compassionate spaces among teammates. Lex is currently a student-athlete at Mills College pursuing a bachelor’s in Political Science with a concentration in American Politics with a graduation date planned for Spring of 2023. Lex began playing soccer at the age of 4 and has been lucky enough to continue to play all throughout her life. Lex feel as though soccer is an extension of her. She lives and breathes the sport and is very passionate about using soccer to create discipline, mental strength, and build meaningful relationships. Furthermore, soccer has helped Lex mold a coaching philosophy around the idea that working hard on and off the field is crucial to becoming successful in all aspects of life. From practice, to games, to pickup with friends, soccer was always on the schedule. All of that soccer led him to UC Santa Cruz where he played with Matt and Cody. After school, Alika pursued a career in the construction industry working in Hawaiʻi and Southern California in roles ranging from Environmental Engineer to Construction Manager. He also worked with teacher externs through the Hawaiʻi Dept. of Education Career and Technical Education externship program and coached two high school soccer seasons. Alika highly values the classroom, but knows there is a lot that can be learned on the soccer field. He has had the opportunity to serve organizations throughout the Bay Area and abroad as a professional coach, teacher, volunteer and non-profit leader. Drew has earned degrees from Harvard Graduate School of Education and San Francisco State University, and holds coaching certifications from the U.S. Soccer Federation, United Soccer Coaches (NSCAA), National Federation of High School Sports, and the Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA). Coach Drew joined the Oakland Genesis team in 2022 because he believes in the power of soccer to change lives, and is committed to making that opportunity accessible to all of Oakland’s youth. Graduating from Northern Illinois University, Paul has an extensive background working with young adults. Having worked with numerous organizations focused on academic and social development for a variety of children from diverse backgrounds, he brings valuable knowledge and experience to young adults navigating their own journey. As an athlete and educator, Paul understands the rigor, organization, discipline, and humility that is required to be a high performing individual. In 2015, Paul exited education to pursue his passion for food. Today, he is the owner of a wellrenown bakery in San Francisco. Leading a team of all ages and backgrounds, he is constantly developing his teams while simultaneously growing his business. In 2022, Paul began volunteering with Oakland Genesis. He began provided necessary Academic Support for students struggling with curriculum. She was raised by Salvadoran parents who taught her to value the importance of education. She went on to attend and graduate from Moreau Catholic High School in 2019 and then on to San José State University, where she got her degree in Sociology in May of 2023. During her time through high school and college, she loved the idea of working with and helping students as a mentor. As a senior, she become a mentor to the freshman class and ever since then knew she wanted to continue with working with students of all ages. Since graduating, she became a K-4th Early Literacy Tutor and is now a TK Early Literacy Tutor & Bilingual Aide. Monse has recently joined Oakland Genesis this past Spring 2024 season because her passion didn’t just stop at elementary, she enjoys working with middle/high school student athletes to achieve their academic goals. Monse grew up around a strong and grounded Salvadoran culture, with an emphasis on family and community. Coming from a big soccer family, Monse has been watching her close family and friends play, watch, and love soccer. She believes it’s a sport that brings her whole family together. She grew up in southern California as the oldest child in a large family that spent most weekends at soccer tournaments or at the beach. She moved to Oakland after graduating from Cal Poly SLO in 2017 and has fallen in love with the Bay Area soccer community. She plays in adult soccer leagues in her free time, and started coaching for after school elementary programs in OUSD in 2021. She loves being silly with kids of all ages, and can be found in a classroom, on a backpacking trail, or on the field any day of the week. She is working towards an earth science teaching credential so she can blend her love of outdoors and working with kids on a daily basis. Miranda heard about Oakland Genesis through the Oakland Roots' Switch the Pitch Anti-Racism Coaching Training, and began coaching for OGSC in summer 2024. Her team of silly, goofy, and happy high schoolers make her laugh at every practice and game. The team loves singing together in the car rides to and from any event, and brings this contagious energy with them everywhere. She is proud to be a part of a team of soccer and academic coaches who go all out to further student excellence and happiness in and out of school. The love and dedication her fellow coaches encourage student success in study halls and in practice connects the girls to one another and their community. Ben enjoys the classroom environment where it’s easier to get to know players and initiate healthy male conversations. Ronald comes to Oakland Genesis, because of a belief in the skills and habits that students learn from playing sports as well as a passion for using sports programming to narrow the achievement gap. His personal mission is to ensure that every Oakland Genesis player leaves the program with the skills and credentials necessary to get in and be successful in college. Through Freedom Community Clinic, she launched the Healing for Nonprofits program that works with mission-driven organizations in the Bay Area to provide employees with opportunities to decompress and build their self-care toolkit. A former college athlete, Krista has personally felt the power of sport and its ability to build community, provide a safe space to play, boost confidence, and achieve academic success. She has also seen and experienced how systems can prohibit youth and their families from experiencing the benefits of playing sports. The organization represents all of California's 58 County Social Service Directors, and Jazmin's portfolio includes the program areas of CalWORKs, Child Care, CalFresh, homeless services, and poverty reduction strategies. Prior to joining CWDA in 2017, she served as a Consultant to the California State Assembly Budget Committee for public safety, state administration, and health and human services programs, a Legislative Aide to Assemblymember Shirley Weber, and began her career as a Capital Fellow in the office of Senator Juan Vargas. Jazmin has a B.A. in Political Science from the University of California at Davis. Jazmin's hidden talent is that she is a healer. She is interested in holistic approaches to health and recently began facilitating breathwork healing sessions and is working towards her yoga teacher certification. Jazmin is passionate about OGSC because she grew up playing soccer in Sacramento, and was fortunate that her parents had the socio-economic means to allow for both she and her sister to play competitive sports. She grew up playing with local recreational teams then made her transition to the ECNL league and finally reached the collegiate level. Hailai’s drive for success and relentless pursuit of growth allowed her to earn a scholarship from one of the best soccer programs in the country while also pursuing a Marketing and Entrepreneurship degree from Santa Clara University. Alongside captaining the Santa Clara Women’s soccer team, Hailai was also a member of the Afghanistan National Team, helping build the foundation for future generations of Afghan girls. Hailai then made her life-long dream of playing professional soccer internationally into a reality, becoming the first Afghan Woman to play in both Italy’s Seria A and Germany’s Bundesliga. After retiring last year, Hailai has pivoted her career and is now working at Nike HQ. Through her journey, Hailai has experienced the various systems that players have to go through to play the sport they love, from the lowest levels to the highest. This experience is intersectional as a person growing up in a minority community, as a young girl, and as a Bay Area native. She is a product of incredible culture that has molded her passion to create impact within the sports world. Soccer has shaped her into who she is today. It has taught her what leadership is and the impact it can have on people beyond the sport world. Sport is one of the most incredible mediums to impact and enact change. Once an athlete, always an athlete. Despite not playing anymore, Hailai seeks to be a part of organizations that strive to get the youth involved with the sport of soccer. Her personal values align deeply with the OGSC mission, especially the holistic approach with coaching young players from home, to school, and the pitch. He represented his country, Peru, in the first Youth World Cup in Argentina in 1981. He played under the Peruvian National Development Youth program, CEDENA, until he came to the United States in 1987 when he decided to focus his career on coaching and the development of talented youth. He earned his USSF “A” license in 1998, the NSCAA “Premier License” in 2003, and the USYSA Youth National License shortly after. Internationally, he has earned the CBF “B” license from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and the “Director Tecnico” license from the Peruvian Football Federation. He also holds a Masters of Science in Kinesiology and Sport Science from California State University East Bay. Ramiro Rodriguez now begins his eighteenth season with Cal North and USSF Coaching Education as a State Olympic Development coach and as a State Coaching Instructor respectively. Rodriguez has been involved with the State ODP Olympic Development Program since 2001 helping both the boys’ and girls’ side. As the boys’ head coach of the 1990, 1994, 2003 and 2005 age groups, he has been crowned Regional Champions in 2009, 2010, 2016 and 2019 respectively. He has coached at the club soccer level for over 20 years with multiple clubs in the Bay Area and he has been a mentor to youth throughout his career, always encouraging involvement in the community, academic engagement and college education. As an Oakland Unified School District educator and professional coach I have noticed the lack of participation from our underprivileged youth within the main US soccer stream. Private soccer clubs are too expensive for our Oakland families and the “pay to play” system doesn’t help young athletes have the chance to train and develop with highly qualified coaches. When I met Cody and Matt and they explained the OGSC mission, it totally got my attention. He is a 15 year veteran of professional soccer and has played in leagues across North America, including MLS, NASL, USL and NISA. He has a long history of living and playing in the Bay Area with the San Jose Earthquakes, San Francisco Deltas and in his current home with the Oakland Roots. He also sits on the Board Of Directors for the United Soccer League Players Association (USLPA) where he serves as the Director Of Career Development, a role where he is trusted to develop pathways and opportunities for players throughout the league both during and after their careers. Nana was born in Toronto, Canada, one of the most multicultural cities in the world. He was raised in an area that is predominantly African American and oftentimes overlooked when it comes to allocating resources for supporting youth. Nana is excited about helping to bring increased opportunity to the Oakland communities that remind him of the neighborhood that shaped the man he is today. Nana is passionate about OGSC because he sees himself in the youth the program aims to empower. Ferrell has led and/or been on staff for the development of successful systems with CV Monarcas Academy, San Joaquin Delta College, University of the Pacific, and Sacramento Republic FC Academy. He joined as the 1st Assistant Coach before a ball was kicked with Oakland Roots SC, and has been integral to building one of the strongest community and purpose-driven professional sporting clubs in the world. Additionally, he led the Roots to the final of the NISA Championship in 2020 as head coach before transitioning into his current role as Technical Director, developing the larger technical project, including the development of young players. Jordan is a Stockton native who played at Cal State East Bay prior spending time in Germany as a player and youth coach. When it comes to youth soccer, Jordan is immensely passionate about utilizing the sport of soccer as a means to connect with kids in communities with less resources or where trauma is a part of everyday life. Having previously built pathways to higher education through soccer for kids from underserved communities in the Central Valley, in his previous posts, he desires to work with other like-minded people to find ways to overcome inequities and barriers to information and opportunity for similar populations here in Oakland. Growing up playing and coaching soccer, Tim made his first foray into the “business world” with a coaching and tutoring company – Sportsitters – he started in high school. At the University of Virginia, Tim led student volunteers coaching in local athletics programs, reaching over 1,500 youth in the Charlottesville community. Originally from the East Coast, Tim worked with organizations such as South Bronx United and America SCORES NYC to help increase access to soccer and academic coaching in New York City. Michael Ornstil Michael, for the past 28 years, has been a mediator for Judicial Arbitration and Mediation Services ("JAMS"), the world's largest provider of alternative dispute resolution services. He is one of the Founders of JAMS. Prior to his work as a mediator, Michael was a trial attorney for 12 years at Sedgwick, Detert, Moran & Arnold, based in the firm's San Francisco office. Michael holds a BA in Political Science from the University of Miami, and a JD from Hastings College of the Law (Univ. of California, SF Law). Michael's primary sports back in the day were baseball and basketball but he was introduced into the world of soccer when his two kids, Madison and Max, started playing soccer for the Rockridge Soccer Club and later for the Bay Oaks Soccer Club. Both Madison and Max played for Bay Oaks from U-10 through their high school years, with Max joining the DeAnza Academy as a U-18. Max went on to play for Santa Clara University, and then professionally for the Portland Timbers 2, and for the last 2 years, the Oakland Roots. Curiously, while never having played soccer whatsoever, Michael ended up coaching various boys and girls soccer teams for Bay Oaks for 16 years, primarily as an assistant or co-coach. He coached the younger brother of OGSC co-founder Cody Pillon, as well as one of OGSC's coaches, Dylan Autran. Both Cody's brother and Dylan knew more about soccer as U-10s than their coach. He also was a licensed soccer referee for 16 years. Michael served on the Bay Oaks Board of Directors, and also served a term as the President of Bay Oaks. As an Oakland resident for 37 years, and having had a long-term relationship with the East Bay soccer community, Michael is aware of the diverse nature of the community and some of the challenges that families face in navigating participation in youth soccer. After hearing what Cody and Matt were doing with OGSC, Michael was eager to get involved in an organization that is filling a major void in youth soccer. He is a 15 year veteran of professional soccer and has played in leagues across North America, including MLS, NASL, USL and NISA. He has a long history of living and playing in the Bay Area with the San Jose Earthquakes, San Francisco Deltas and in his current home with the Oakland Roots. He also sits on the Board Of Directors for the United Soccer League Players Association (USLPA) where he serves as the Director Of Career Development, a role where he is trusted to develop pathways and opportunities for players throughout the league both during and after their careers. Nana was born in Toronto, Canada, one of the most multicultural cities in the world. He was raised in an area that is predominantly African American and oftentimes overlooked when it comes to allocating resources for supporting youth. Nana is excited about helping to bring increased opportunity to the Oakland communities that remind him of the neighborhood that shaped the man he is today. Nana is passionate about OGSC because he sees himself in the youth the program aims to empower. He represented his country, Peru, in the first Youth World Cup in Argentina in 1981. He played under the Peruvian National Development Youth program, CEDENA, until he came to the United States in 1987 when he decided to focus his career on coaching and the development of talented youth. He earned his USSF “A” license in 1998, the NSCAA “Premier License” in 2003, and the USYSA Youth National License shortly after. Internationally, he has earned the CBF “B” license from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and the “Director Tecnico” license from the Peruvian Football Federation. He also holds a Masters of Science in Kinesiology and Sport Science from California State University East Bay. Ramiro Rodriguez now begins his eighteenth season with Cal North and USSF Coaching Education as a State Olympic Development coach and as a State Coaching Instructor respectively. Rodriguez has been involved with the State ODP Olympic Development Program since 2001 helping both the boys’ and girls’ side. As the boys’ head coach of the 1990, 1994, 2003 and 2005 age groups, he has been crowned Regional Champions in 2009, 2010, 2016 and 2019 respectively. He has coached at the club soccer level for over 20 years with multiple clubs in the Bay Area and he has been a mentor to youth throughout his career, always encouraging involvement in the community, academic engagement and college education. As an Oakland Unified School District educator and professional coach I have noticed the lack of participation from our underprivileged youth within the main US soccer stream. Private soccer clubs are too expensive for our Oakland families and the “pay to play” system doesn’t help young athletes have the chance to train and develop with highly qualified coaches. When I met Cody and Matt and they explained the OGSC mission, it totally got my attention. In his role at TPG, Tim works with innovative management teams at early-stage internet and digital media businesses to help unlock their next stage of growth. Prior to TPG, he worked in New York with PJT Partners. Tim has an M. Phil. in Latin American Studies from the University of Cambridge and a B.S. in Commerce and Spanish from UVA. His current non-profit board service includes the McIntire Young Alumni Committee, America SCORES Bay Area Leadership Council, and the Highwind Impact Fund. When he’s not out for a run or trying to get through the NYT crossword, Tim can be found in search of the Bay area’s best diner. Growing up playing and coaching soccer, Tim made his first foray into the “business world” with a coaching and tutoring company – Sportsitters – he started in high school. At the University of Virginia, Tim led student volunteers coaching in local athletics programs, reaching over 1,500 youth in the Charlottesville community. Originally from the East Coast, Tim worked with organizations such as South Bronx United and America SCORES NYC to help increase access to soccer and academic coaching in New York City. He helps oversee the companies philanthropical efforts as well as the community relations/public affairs duties as well. He was honored by The City of Los Angeles and the Los Angeles NAACP for his work in the community, and has partnered up with many of the community organizations in Los Angeles, Watts, Compton, Orange County and Long Beach to help serve LMI communities and ensure that underserved communities have access to the resources that they need. In his previous role with Wells Fargo he was a Senior Growth and Strategy Consultant, and his job was to work with the District Managers and the Regional Bank Presidents in a consultant capacity to help them maximize the efficiency of the territories that they were responsible for. She grew up playing with local recreational teams then made her transition to the ECNL league and finally reached the collegiate level. Hailai’s drive for success and relentless pursuit of growth allowed her to earn a scholarship from one of the best soccer programs in the country while also pursuing a Marketing and Entrepreneurship degree from Santa Clara University. Alongside captaining the Santa Clara Women’s soccer team, Hailai was also a member of the Afghanistan National Team, helping build the foundation for future generations of Afghan girls. Hailai then made her life-long dream of playing professional soccer internationally into a reality, becoming the first Afghan Woman to play in both Italy’s Seria A and Germany’s Bundesliga. After retiring last year, Hailai has pivoted her career and is now working at Nike HQ. Through her journey, Hailai has experienced the various systems that players have to go through to play the sport they love, from the lowest levels to the highest. This experience is intersectional as a person growing up in a minority community, as a young girl, and as a Bay Area native. She is a product of incredible culture that has molded her passion to create impact within the sports world. Soccer has shaped her into who she is today. It has taught her what leadership is and the impact it can have on people beyond the sport world. Sport is one of the most incredible mediums to impact and enact change. Once an athlete, always an athlete. Despite not playing anymore, Hailai seeks to be a part of organizations that strive to get the youth involved with the sport of soccer. Spending the last 20 in soccer at every level, from youth to professional, Dan brings extensive knowledge of the youth sports landscape as well as hands on operational experience running youth sports organizations and businesses. He is one of the Founders of JAMS. Prior to his work as a mediator, Michael was a trial attorney for 12 years at Sedgwick, Detert, Moran & Arnold, based in the firm's San Francisco office. Michael holds a BA in Political Science from the University of Miami, and a JD from Hastings College of the Law (Univ. of California, SF Law). Michael's primary sports back in the day were baseball and basketball but he was introduced into the world of soccer when his two kids, Madison and Max, started playing soccer for the Rockridge Soccer Club and later for the Bay Oaks Soccer Club. Both Madison and Max played for Bay Oaks from U-10 through their high school years, with Max joining the DeAnza Academy as a U-18. Max went on to play for Santa Clara University, and then professionally for the Portland Timbers 2, and for the last 2 years, the Oakland Roots. Curiously, while never having played soccer whatsoever, Michael ended up coaching various boys and girls soccer teams for Bay Oaks for 16 years, primarily as an assistant or co-coach. He coached the younger brother of OGSC co-founder Cody Pillon, as well as one of OGSC's coaches, Dylan Autran. Both Cody's brother and Dylan knew more about soccer as U-10s than their coach. He also was a licensed soccer referee for 16 years. Michael served on the Bay Oaks Board of Directors, and also served a term as the President of Bay Oaks. As an Oakland resident for 37 years, and having had a long-term relationship with the East Bay soccer community, Michael is aware of the diverse nature of the community and some of the challenges that families face in navigating participation in youth soccer. After hearing what Cody and Matt were doing with OGSC, Michael was eager to get involved in an organization that is filling a major void in youth soccer. He also sits on the Board Of Directors for the United Soccer League Players Association (USLPA) where he serves as the Director Of Career Development, a role where he is trusted to develop pathways and opportunities for players throughout the league both during and after their careers. Nana was born in Toronto, Canada, one of the most multicultural cities in the world. He was raised in an area that is predominantly African American and oftentimes overlooked when it comes to allocating resources for supporting youth. Nana is excited about helping to bring increased opportunity to the Oakland communities that remind him of the neighborhood that shaped the man he is today. Nana is passionate about OGSC because he sees himself in the youth the program aims to empower. He represented his country, Peru, in the first Youth World Cup in Argentina in 1981. He played under the Peruvian National Development Youth program, CEDENA, until he came to the United States in 1987 when he decided to focus his career on coaching and the development of talented youth. He earned his USSF “A” license in 1998, the NSCAA “Premier License” in 2003, and the USYSA Youth National License shortly after. Internationally, he has earned the CBF “B” license from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and the “Director Tecnico” license from the Peruvian Football Federation. He also holds a Masters of Science in Kinesiology and Sport Science from California State University East Bay. Ramiro Rodriguez now begins his eighteenth season with Cal North and USSF Coaching Education as a State Olympic Development coach and as a State Coaching Instructor respectively. Rodriguez has been involved with the State ODP Olympic Development Program since 2001 helping both the boys’ and girls’ side. As the boys’ head coach of the 1990, 1994, 2003 and 2005 age groups, he has been crowned Regional Champions in 2009, 2010, 2016 and 2019 respectively. He has coached at the club soccer level for over 20 years with multiple clubs in the Bay Area and he has been a mentor to youth throughout his career, always encouraging involvement in the community, academic engagement and college education. As an Oakland Unified School District educator and professional coach I have noticed the lack of participation from our underprivileged youth within the main US soccer stream. Private soccer clubs are too expensive for our Oakland families and the “pay to play” system doesn’t help young athletes have the chance to train and develop with highly qualified coaches. When I met Cody and Matt and they explained the OGSC mission, it totally got my attention. He was honored by The City of Los Angeles and the Los Angeles NAACP for his work in the community, and has partnered up with many of the community organizations in Los Angeles, Watts, Compton, Orange County and Long Beach to help serve LMI communities and ensure that underserved communities have access to the resources that they need. In his previous role with Wells Fargo he was a Senior Growth and Strategy Consultant, and his job was to work with the District Managers and the Regional Bank Presidents in a consultant capacity to help them maximize the efficiency of the territories that they were responsible for. She grew up playing with local recreational teams then made her transition to the ECNL league and finally reached the collegiate level. Hailai’s drive for success and relentless pursuit of growth allowed her to earn a scholarship from one of the best soccer programs in the country while also pursuing a Marketing and Entrepreneurship degree from Santa Clara University. Alongside captaining the Santa Clara Women’s soccer team, Hailai was also a member of the Afghanistan National Team, helping build the foundation for future generations of Afghan girls. Hailai then made her life-long dream of playing professional soccer internationally into a reality, becoming the first Afghan Woman to play in both Italy’s Seria A and Germany’s Bundesliga. After retiring last year, Hailai has pivoted her career and is now working at Nike HQ. Through her journey, Hailai has experienced the various systems that players have to go through to play the sport they love, from the lowest levels to the highest. This experience is intersectional as a person growing up in a minority community, as a young girl, and as a Bay Area native. She is a product of incredible culture that has molded her passion to create impact within the sports world. Soccer has shaped her into who she is today. It has taught her what leadership is and the impact it can have on people beyond the sport world. Sport is one of the most incredible mediums to impact and enact change. Michael Ornstil Michael, for the past 28 years, has been a mediator for Judicial Arbitration and Mediation Services ("JAMS"), the world's largest provider of alternative dispute resolution services. He is one of the Founders of JAMS. Prior to his work as a mediator, Michael was a trial attorney for 12 years at Sedgwick, Detert, Moran & Arnold, based in the firm's San Francisco office. Michael holds a BA in Political Science from the University of Miami, and a JD from Hastings College of the Law (Univ. of California, SF Law). Michael's primary sports back in the day were baseball and basketball but he was introduced into the world of soccer when his two kids, Madison and Max, started playing soccer for the Rockridge Soccer Club and later for the Bay Oaks Soccer Club. Both Madison and Max played for Bay Oaks from U-10 through their high school years, with Max joining the DeAnza Academy as a U-18. Max went on to play for Santa Clara University, and then professionally for the Portland Timbers 2, and for the last 2 years, the Oakland Roots. Curiously, while never having played soccer whatsoever, Michael ended up coaching various boys and girls soccer teams for Bay Oaks for 16 years, primarily as an assistant or co-coach. He coached the younger brother of OGSC co-founder Cody Pillon, as well as one of OGSC's coaches, Dylan Autran. Both Cody's brother and Dylan knew more about soccer as U-10s than their coach. He also was a licensed soccer referee for 16 years. Michael served on the Bay Oaks Board of Directors, and also served a term as the President of Bay Oaks. As an Oakland resident for 37 years, and having had a long-term relationship with the East Bay soccer community, Michael is aware of the diverse nature of the community and some of the challenges that families face in navigating participation in youth soccer. After hearing what Cody and Matt were doing with OGSC, Michael was eager to get involved in an organization that is filling a major void in youth soccer. He is a 15 year veteran of professional soccer and has played in leagues across North America, including MLS, NASL, USL and NISA. He also sits on the Board Of Directors for the United Soccer League Players Association (USLPA) where he serves as the Director Of Career Development, a role where he is trusted to develop pathways and opportunities for players throughout the league both during and after their careers. Nana was born in Toronto, Canada, one of the most multicultural cities in the world. He was raised in an area that is predominantly African American and oftentimes overlooked when it comes to allocating resources for supporting youth. Nana is excited about helping to bring increased opportunity to the Oakland communities that remind him of the neighborhood that shaped the man he is today. Nana is passionate about OGSC because he sees himself in the youth the program aims to empower. He represented his country, Peru, in the first Youth World Cup in Argentina in 1981. He played under the Peruvian National Development Youth program, CEDENA, until he came to the United States in 1987 when he decided to focus his career on coaching and the development of talented youth. He earned his USSF “A” license in 1998, the NSCAA “Premier License” in 2003, and the USYSA Youth National License shortly after. Internationally, he has earned the CBF “B” license from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and the “Director Tecnico” license from the Peruvian Football Federation. He also holds a Masters of Science in Kinesiology and Sport Science from California State University East Bay. Ramiro Rodriguez now begins his eighteenth season with Cal North and USSF Coaching Education as a State Olympic Development coach and as a State Coaching Instructor respectively. Rodriguez has been involved with the State ODP Olympic Development Program since 2001 helping both the boys’ and girls’ side. As the boys’ head coach of the 1990, 1994, 2003 and 2005 age groups, he has been crowned Regional Champions in 2009, 2010, 2016 and 2019 respectively. He has coached at the club soccer level for over 20 years with multiple clubs in the Bay Area and he has been a mentor to youth throughout his career, always encouraging involvement in the community, academic engagement and college education. As an Oakland Unified School District educator and professional coach I have noticed the lack of participation from our underprivileged youth within the main US soccer stream. Private soccer clubs are too expensive for our Oakland families and the “pay to play” system doesn’t help young athletes have the chance to train and develop with highly qualified coaches. When I met Cody and Matt and they explained the OGSC mission, it totally got my attention. Growing up playing and coaching soccer, Tim made his first foray into the “business world” with a coaching and tutoring company – Sportsitters – he started in high school. At the University of Virginia, Tim led student volunteers coaching in local athletics programs, reaching over 1,500 youth in the Charlottesville community. Originally from the East Coast, Tim worked with organizations such as South Bronx United and America SCORES NYC to help increase access to soccer and academic coaching in New York City. In his previous role with Wells Fargo he was a Senior Growth and Strategy Consultant, and his job was to work with the District Managers and the Regional Bank Presidents in a consultant capacity to help them maximize the efficiency of the territories that they were responsible for. Hailai’s drive for success and relentless pursuit of growth allowed her to earn a scholarship from one of the best soccer programs in the country while also pursuing a Marketing and Entrepreneurship degree from Santa Clara University. Alongside captaining the Santa Clara Women’s soccer team, Hailai was also a member of the Afghanistan National Team, helping build the foundation for future generations of Afghan girls. Hailai then made her life-long dream of playing professional soccer internationally into a reality, becoming the first Afghan Woman to play in both Italy’s Seria A and Germany’s Bundesliga. After retiring last year, Hailai has pivoted her career and is now working at Nike HQ. Through her journey, Hailai has experienced the various systems that players have to go through to play the sport they love, from the lowest levels to the highest. This experience is intersectional as a person growing up in a minority community, as a young girl, and as a Bay Area native. She is a product of incredible culture that has molded her passion to create impact within the sports world. Soccer has shaped her into who she is today. It has taught her what leadership is and the impact it can have on people beyond the sport world. Sport is one of the most incredible mediums to impact and enact change. Once an athlete, always an athlete. Despite not playing anymore, Hailai seeks to be a part of organizations that strive to get the youth involved with the sport of soccer. Kady is a well-known expert in Silicon Valley for go-to-market strategy and launching sales teams for early stage tech companies. She previously was the first sales hire and built the sales team for Motive (now a $3Bn company) and helped to lead sales efforts for ZenDrive. Prior to her career in tech, Kady was a professional tennis player- winning 4 doubles titles and being ranked top 450 in the world. She graduated from Arizona State University with a double major in Marketing and Management, where she brought the school their first individual tennis national championship title. Kady states she wouldn't be where she is today or the person she is without athletics. The discipline, life lessons, and people she has met has put her in position to be the first college graduate in her family history on both sides, and a driven, succesful businesswoman. In 2011, Dave founded Project Vega, a 501(c)(3) organization that established the first free-to-play competitive soccer club in San Francisco. Project Vega went on to serve over 750 youth with a combined soccer, vocabulary enrichment, conflict resolution, and healthy habits curriculum.
